I am not a critic. I am not an expert or a connoisseur. I look for passion. I look for joy. I’m on a never ending quest for finding beauty where no one else seems to find it. I am not an intellectual. I like books that overwhelm. I like movies that leave me wondering. I like tastes that make me moan (yes, seriously, I make that noise). That’s why I like food documentaries from PLANÈTE+. That probably is why I found something like Food Film Fest here in Warsaw. That also is probably why I was so blown away after seeing Blood Into Wine during the Fest in 2010. And it’s not only because MJK was there starring (although – yes, mainly because of that). Not only because Jack Black and Milla Jovovich were starring there too (although – yes, that also). I hoped it would be good. I suspected it would be good. And I was right. Again. As always.
The main theme is wine and wine making. The background is Arizona and the fugitive charm of the American dream. The hidden agenda is Universe, transcendence and nature. No, I was not high. No, I am not exaggerating this time. The movie is so much more than just a story of another celebrity that decides to start doing something oh-so-original (no offense, MJK). I do pay respect for all the passion, all the work and the planning that was poured into the project. The core idea of wine making here reaches further and beyond the term. The movie itself is not limited into a regular document. There is laughter, there is sarcasm, there is talking, asking questions and wondering. I’d call it a well planned art show. It just suits the picture.
I know there are dozens of better reviews of the movie than mine, but I had to write about it anyway. And I chose “Blood Into Wine” as my first movie to review, because I honestly found something unspeakable about it. I truly doubted it would be possible to capture so many aspects of something so mundane as food or drink in one piece of hard to define multi-dimensional form of art. Well, silly me for underestimating Mr. Keenan. My bad. My apologies.
I will never be able to fully explain why you need to see this movie. You’ll see for yourself. As for the rating, I’m giving it 10- out of 10. Why? Because it is so good and well played that not everyone will get it (sorry, ignorames, you won’t).

PS – oh, and not that I brag but check out what I got 😛
